Las Meninas’ Infanta Margarita trap viral video

Infanta Margarita appears in Las Meninas (1656), an oil painting that hangs in the Museo del Prado in Madrid, the capital of Spain. Just three years ago, in December 2017, Las Meninas‘ Infanta Margarita also became the protagonist of a trap viral video.

The word “Menina” means “lady-in-waiting” or “Maid of Honour”, i.e. a girl who serves in a royal court. There is a lot of detail in Las Meninas painting. More has been written about it than about almost any other Western painting because it is quite complicated. For example, people do not always agree about who is looking at whom and why they are standing there.

Her story inspired the Barcelona-based editor Christian Flores that decided to make Infanta Margarita the protagonist of her video clip  “Velaske, yo soi guapa?” (“Velaske, am I beautiful?”). To the rhythm of trap music, she and the Sevilla’s painter establish a dialog in Spanish about her beauty and her tragic future.
