Hello everybody!

Today I would like to share with you this listening comprehension activity that I have created for my ESL students, level B2 (advanced). We are studying a unit that deals with the way the brain Works and the learning processes, so I figured out watching an interesting video on the topic would be perfect.

The video TED Talk "You can grow new brain cells" by Sandrine Thuret, which you can find in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_tjKYvEziI , deals with neurogenesis, the process by which neuro cells are generated. In the printable you will find two activities: one about elements which increase or decrease neurogenesis, and another about the aspects that help produce neuro cells.

I do the activity before watching the TED Talk for three reasons: to know how familiar my students are with the topic, to raise their interest and to help my students scan for some specific information while we watch the video.

I hope you find it useful and interesting !!

If you want to know about King Henry VIII and this period of history in England, watch the film The Other Boleyn Girl.

The Other Boleyn Girl is a 2008 drama film directed by Justin Chadwick. The screenplay by Peter Morgan was adapted from the 2001 novel of the same name by Philippa Gregory. It is a romanticized account of the lives of 16th-century aristocrats Mary Boleyn, one-time mistress of King Henry VIII, and her sister, Anne, who became the monarch's ill-fated second wife, though much history is distorted.

Hello everybody !!

This morning I want to show you this printable about the Braille System that I have used with my 15-year-old students from my CLIL History class (English level, intermediate CEFR B1). It consists of a warming up activity to motivate them to learn about the topic and to check their prior knowledge on the topic, a reading text, some reading comprehension questions, a couple of vocabulary activities, a collaborative exercise and some final discussion points to deal with in a heads-together activity. You will also find the answer key and a printer-friendly versión of the text.

I have done this activity when we were dealing with the different systems of communications that we humans have been using from prehistory to present-day society.

Braille is a form of communication that allows blind people to read, write, do math and even compose music and which was developed in the 1820s by Louis Braille. It's not a langua, but a system that can be used by blind people to read or write most of the world's languages.

Hope you find it useful... Let me know your feedback and remember,... always have fun !!

Hello everybody!!

The order of adjectives in English is very strict and precise. Here you have a grid with the things you have to take into account when deciding on the order of two or three adjectives you want to use for a single noun. Basically the idea is that the more precise the adjective is, the closer it will be to the noun, and the more generic it is, the farther it will be placed.

But in practical terms, this rule is very difficult to apply when putting our English into practice, so I think it is better that use this grid where adjectives are organized according to the meaning they provide.

Hope you like it and always... have fun with English!!

English Proverb Game: Cut, Search and Glue

This is an activity that my students love to learn proverbs in context:

First they have to match the proverb, with the right definition and the photograph.

Secondly, all the class shares their answers and we make sure everybody has understood the meaning of the proverb.

Thirdly, the teacher shows the students the flashcard and students remember the proverb it refered to.

Finally, a speaking activity is generated in small groups with questions related to proverbs and everyday life.

This pack includes the following elements:
1- Proverbs
2-Definitions
3-Photographs
4-Speaking activity
5- Flashcards with bigger images
6- Answer keys

PS Sometimes I prefer to cut it out myself, laminate it and put everything in an envelope so that they just search for the right option... every teacher works in a different way !!

Ancient Greece: Search, cut and glue

https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Ancient-Greece-Search-Cut-and-Glue-1827788

Here are 9 worksheets with bits of information and gaps in them about different aspects of Ancient Greek culture: geography, gods, everyday life, relevant ancient Greeks, etc. You have to find the right word for each gap. The words you need are below in yellow box. Use your books and notes to help you in the quest.

Very attractive activity for students, since they have search the right word for the correct gap, cut it out and glue it. They can work individually or, much better, in a collaborative way.

I find this pack of worksheets an excellent introduction to the unit of Ancient Greece, with very easy and understandable language structures and vocabulary. Students build up little by little their knowledge on this wonderful ancient civilization.
